Call for Paper Abstracts: Alternative Knowing Spaces

We welcome paper abstracts to the panel track Alternative Knowing Spaces (track no. 5) at the 4S/EASST Conference in Prague, from 18 – 21 August 2020.

This open panel focuses on how alternative ways of knowing are practiced in a variety of disciplinary, cultural, regional and historical contexts. What do ‘knowledge’ and ‘discursivity’ mean in these enhanced and performative epistemic cultures? And what consequences does this entail for the way people document, share and disseminate research? Through this open panel, we hope to advance these fundamental questions by tracing and discussing concrete knowledge practices and how they stabilize over time – or not – in research fields and traditions, ranging from visual ethnography and artistic research to the history of knowledge and 4E-cognitive sciences. We invite papers touching upon one or more approaches, including but not limited to re-enactment and reconstruction, citizen science and ‘epistemologies of the South’, co-creation and artistic work, enactivism and activism, with a focus on how knowledge and understanding are generated, stabilized and shared in these fields of investigation. If you would want to discuss your abstract with us, please send an email to (one of) the convenors:

Henk Borgdorff, Leiden University: h.a.borgdorff@hum.leidenuniv.nl
Sven Dupré, Utrecht University: s.g.m.dupre@uu.nl
Peter Peters, Maastricht University: p.peters@maastrichtuniversity.nl

Deadline for submissions: 29 February 2020, via the abstract submission platform
